"I don't know- I don't want to talk as much," she said, denting her chin thoughtfully with her forefinger. "It's nicer to think dear, pretty thoughts and keep them in one's heart, like treasures. I don't like to have them laughed at or wondered over. And somehow I don't want to use big words anymore. It's almost a pity, isn't it, now that I'm really growing big enough to say them if I did want to. It's fun to be almost grown up in someways, but it's not the kind of fun I expected. There's so much to learn and do and think that there isn't time for big words."
-Anne of Green Gables

How sweet and perfect and true she is. If I could be anyone when I grow up, it would be Anne Shirley.

I would live in a pretty house on a Canadian island in a small town with people who think that I am lovely. I would travel, make new friends, and quietly change lives for the better.

Then, when I'd had my adventures, written my books, seen the world, and met scores of brilliant and beautiful people, I'll marry my one true love...

and live happily ever after.

It's a lovely thing to think about while I'm waist deep in final papers and portfolios, final newspaper editions, editing hours, and work. I had to work all day yesterday in the sweltering heart that has currently attack my college town, and today I have retreated to the coolest place in my dorm hall - the lounge - with my suite mates trying to get even a tidbit of the gigantic mountain called 'finals'

wish me luck.
wish me peace.
wish me summer dreams that come true.

I wish the same for you.

  1. All the best, my dearest - I have some grim exams [including one in Ancient Greek translation - aarrgg!] coming up too, and I completely sympathise. If I get too frantic, I go outside and think, well, even if the absolute worst happens and this goes really wrong, the sky will still be blue and there will still be flowers! Which does help [sometimes]. I love Anne of Green Gables, too - I remember having a gorgeous illustrated version of the book and poring over it. My favourite bit was when she pretended to be Ophelia and floated down the river! And, of course, adore your Sleeping Beauty song lyrics and sentiments... it is somehow comforting to know that I am not the only one tired with longing for someone to finally come along. Fortunate favours the brave, my lovely! xxx

  2. Good luck! I have a month full of exams so i know how you feel!
